Owen handed Kev backing

Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan believes that striker Michael Owen is looking very sharp, despite having only found the net once in his last eleven games.

The 28-year-old England frontman's only goal since October came in the 4-1 FA Cup third round win over Stoke City, but Keegan feels that Owen is nearly back to his best and will soon start finding the net again.

He said: "Michael is nearly back to where he wants to be. If he had scored a goal, you would have been saying what a good performance it was (against Arsenal).

"He is looking really sharp, it is just goals now. We have not been creating much for him.

"If we get him opportunities, he will score.

"You don't need to tell me if he gets opportunities that he won't score. Michael's always done that."
