Owen fears allayed
14 May 2007 - 09:01:41
Newcastle United coach Lee Clark has played down fears that Michael Owen suffered a serious injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Watford.
The England international was stretchered off the pitch after colliding with team-mate Matty Pattison and initial reports suggested he had suffered a fractured cheekbone.
However, Clark confirmed to the club's official website: "It was a complete accident and luckily Michael is OK.
"He was a bit dazed but, if we'd a game next week then Michael would be completely fine and would definitely play."
Caretaker manager Nigel Pearson added: "Michael is alright. He has a knock.
"He has mild concussion so it's no problem. He'll be able to go home tonight.
"It's something he'll have to deal with. People worried about him in such situations, but I can assure you he's in really good nick."
It is anticipated that Owen will be fit enough to feature for England B against Albania in Burnley on May 25.
