Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has revealed that he has opened talks with the club about a new extended contract.
The 28-year-old England international is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal, but he is keen to sort out a new long-term contract and end rumours of him making an exit from St James' Park.
He said: "We've just opened contract talks, we are talking.
"I've got this season left regardless and we're working on a deal to stay longer. There'll probably be news in a month or two.
"This last year I played fully without hiccups to my knee. That's well behind me now."
Owen joined the Magpies in the summer of 2005 from Real Madrid, but has made just 47 appearances due to a series of injuries.
Meanwhile, Hamburg's Ivory Coast defender Guy Demel says he is flattered to be linked with a summer transfer to Tyneside.
The 27-year-old stopper told Sky Sports: "My transfer will be talked about soon and the Premier League is a top league.
"It is good to be linked with famous teams such as Newcastle, but we will wait and see."
