Owen and Taylor recalled by Newcastle for derby showdown with Boro

Michael Owen and Steven Taylor will be recalled for Newcastle's derby showdown with Middlesbrough on Monday night but Boro are reeling from the news that captain Emanuel Pogatetz is out for the season. Newcastle manager Alan Shearer dropped his friend and former strike partner Owen for his return to Anfield last week, taking his heavily criticised captain out of the firing line for a game in which they managed only one shot on goal. But with Newcastle seeking their first win at St James' Park this year, Shearer is ready to recall Owen, who has failed to add to his eight-goal tally in the Barclays Premier League since he returned seven games ago. Shearer said: 'I just felt it was right for that particular game at Liverpool and I have to say Michael's reaction has been as you'd expect it would be with the places he's been and players he's played with. He has been very, very professional. He was disappointed and I wouldn't want it any other way but he took it in the right way.' Taylor is expected to replace Fabricio Coloccini. Boro manager Gareth Southgate was hoping Pogatetz would return for the derby after a month out but he will need surgery on a knee injury. Left back Andrew Taylor will return to bolster the back four. Southgate said: 'It is a shame and we have to deal with it. Pogatetz has been our best defender statistically for three years and we haven't gone on about how much we have missed him but it has been disappointing.'.
