One in the eye for Dyer
28 Oct 2006 - 10:10:06
Newcastle United's injury-jinxed midfielder Kieron Dyer faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering an eye injury during training.
The 27-year-old England international had been pencilled in for a first start in six months against Charlton Athletic, but will now be out for at least another fortnight.
Magpies boss Glenn Roeder told the club's official website: "Kieron took a knock to his left eye on Friday in what can only be described as a freak accident.
"He will not take part in contact training for at least two weeks.
"It is such cruel luck to be robbed of his services, but we have just got to stand up and be counted and move forward in a positive way."
Dyer had returned to action as a substitute in the midweek Carling Cup win over Portsmouth, with Roeder adding: "Kieron does not deserve such wretched luck to happen little more than a day after getting back out on the pitch against Portsmouth.
"For 30 minutes he showed the kind of electric pace and ability that we know he is capable of."
