Midfielder Kevin Nolan believes Alan Shearer is likely to stay on as Newcastle United manager next season.
The club's all-time leading scorer took the reins on a temporary basis last month with the task of keeping the Magpies in the Premier League.
Shearer's first win in the hot-seat against Middlesbrough on Monday has seen them take a giant stride towards safety and Nolan believes the legendary striker could be persuaded to stay on should they retain their top-flight status.
"The more he's settled into the job, I think the more and more he wants to keep it now," he said.
"To be honest, I think he's the only one who will get the time and the money to get things right.
"If Alan does walk away, anyone who takes the job will probably be fighting a losing battle.
"It would be so hard for them. So it's a must now that he does carry on, for the sake of us players as much as anything so we don't have another seven managers in two years or something."
