Full-back Danny Simpson is back in the Newcastle squad after more than a month out with a hamstring injury.

His return is timely for the Magpies, who are likely to face Bordeaux without centre-backs Steven Taylor (calf) and Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring). Keeper Tim Krul is still sidelined with an ankle problem, but midfielder Yohan Cabaye is in contention after recovering from a mouth infection.
