Newcastle midfielder Barton ends his spat with former boss Shearer

Joey Barton says he has reconciled with former manager Alan Shearer after the pair were involved in an ugly dressing room bust-up last season. Barton, 27, criticised then Newcastle boss Shearer and assistant Iain Dowie after his sending off against Liverpool last season and Shearer suspended the midfielder from the club for the final three games. Barton, currently out for two months following foot surgery, later met up with Shearer at a racecourse and they agreed to put the past behind them. Barton said: 'With grown men in competitive sport there is going to be a clash of personalities. 'Emotions were running high and Alan was disappointed; no-one was more disappointed than I was that I had taken myself out of the equation by getting sent off stupidly. Moving on: Joey Barton insists he has put his differences with Alan Shearer aside 'Things went on in the dressing room and it's well documented certain things were said. We've both seen each other since and we've both been very civil about it. 'I'm fine with it, I've got a lot of respect for Alan. I was never going to get in a war of words with him, I have too much respect for him. In with a shout: Shearer is primed for a return to the Newcastle hot-seat if local businessman Barry Moat completes his takeover of the Championship club   'We had a disagreement but we are both grown men and you get on with it.' Shearer could yet return as Newcastle manager if Barry Moat is successful in his bid to buy the club.  Ukraine v England live!
