Newcastle have offered me manager's job on permanent basis, says Hughton

Chris Hughton has been offered the Newcastle United manager's job on a full-time basis. Hughton has been in charge of the team on a caretaker basis since July following Alan Shearer's departure and he has picked up two manager of the month awards and, until Saturday's defeat at Nottingham Forest, had guided the club to top spot in the Championship. As owner Mike Ashley prepares to stay around after failing to land a buyer for the troubled club, he has opened talks with Hughton to become manager. Hughton said: `I am honoured to be offered the job, we are still in negotiations, it is something we hope will get resolved. `I've always felt that the manager's situation was an issue, but not the most important one. Getting results has been the most important thing. `Once we have got Scunthorpe and Doncaster out of the way, we will have discussions with Derek Llambias. It will involve moving from caretaker to manager on a full-time basis. `They have indicated to me that they want to turn it from a temporary role to a permanant one.'
