Newcastle Fined Because Of Flares!

Newcastle United dealt with a number of complaints from fans complaining of "anti-social behaviour" in the stands throughout the Europa League fixture against Metalist Kharkiv.
Distress flares and a number of smoke canisters were lit, both prohibited at all grounds, which mean Newcastle are sure to pick up a fine.
Steve Storey, Newcastle United’s head of safety and security: “The majority of our fans were extremely well behaved and generated a fantastic atmosphere on Thursday evening, but sadly a small minority let everyone down badly with their actions.
“The incidents we witnessed and have had reported since Thursday are bitterly disappointing for the fan groups we worked with and for the well-behaved fans that helped to create a lot of noise at the game.
“We invited the organisers in for a meeting in the weeks running up to the game to help them along, providing them advice on where they could hang banners as well as guidance on ensuring ground regulations were adhered to.
“To then have complaints about how unpleasant and threatening the experience was for other fans, and to have all that effort hijacked by a selfish few, is very sad indeed.
“As a club, we have a responsibility to ensure everyone who comes to St James’ Park does so as safely as possible.
“When we receive complaints that people are frightened and ashamed by the conduct of their fellow fans, we are duty bound to respond.
“I’d therefore urge our fans to acknowledge and respect the safety measures that we have in place.”
