New United contract for Taylor

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has finally ended speculation about his future by penning a new three-year deal with Kevin Keegan's side. The 22-year-old had only 12 months remaining on his previous contract and had been linked with transfers to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. The former England Under-21 international made his debut for United in the 3-0 UEFA Cup win at Real Mallorca in March 2004 and has now made 121 first-team appearances for the club. Taylor recently told the Chronicle: "Everyone knows I love this club and want to commit my future here, but the deal has to be right for me, and the club. "Knowing the owner wants me to stay means a lot to me. "I am happy there has been some progress and I hope everything is sorted out soon. "It's all in the hands of my agent and I can't really say any more."
