    Martins relief for Roeder

    27 Aug 2006 - 17:51:48

Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder has admitted that he feared the worst when new signing Obafemi Martins had to be stretchered off in the 2-0 defeat at revitalised Aston Villa.

The Magpies finished the game with ten men but Martin has only a dead leg, after it was initially feared that he had suffered a serious injury.

"He's got a heavy dead leg," confirmed Roeder after the match.

"That's probably the best it could have been from where I was standing because I was fearing the worst when he went off on a stretcher.

"I didn't know whether it was a knee injury of significance or not so to suffer a dead leg that will take 10-12 days to heal - I can handle that."

Martins completed his £10million transfer to St James' Park from Internazionale earlier this week.
