Maradona eases Gutierrez fear

Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez has confirmed that Argentina national team coach Diego Maradona has allayed his fears of missing out at the World Cup next summer.

It was believed that he could be omitted following the Magpies' relegation to the Championship last term, but after private talks with the national hero, it was confirmed he has no issues with him playing in England's second tier.

Speaking to Evening Chronicle, he said: "I told him (Maradona) of my concerns about relegation costing me my international place, but the boss reassured me that if I was playing regularly at Newcastle and doing a job he didn't care about me being out of the Premier League.

"That meant everything and swept away all my fears.

"If I could stay in the Argentina squad in World Cup year I was happy to have another go at Newcastle."
