Newcastle United are sweating on the fitness of several players ahead of Sunday's season-defining meeting with Aston Villa.
Magpies boss Alan Shearer has already revealed that Michael Owen could be fit for the make-or-break clash at Villa Park following a groin problem.
However, defensive duo Habib Beye and Jose Enrique are both highly doubtful for a match Newcastle dare not lose, while Sebastien Bassong is definitely out after losing an appeal against a red card in last weekend's defeat to Fulham.
Striker Andy Carroll will also be absent after picking up an ankle ligament injury during training.
"The results of Michael's scan are very positive, but we will have to wait and see. It will certainly go to the wire," revealed assistant manager Iain Dowie.
"Andy Carroll has got an ankle ligament injury and definitely won't be fit. He did it in training - it's very unfortunate.
"Habib is very, very doubtful and Jose Enrique's 50-50 at best.
"But we have got Shola Ameobi, and young Nile Ranger comes into the frame."
