Magpies sufferTaylor setback
29 Jul 2010 - 08:27:51
Newcastle United central defender Steven Taylor will miss the start of the new season, after being ruled out for three months by a shoulder injury.
Taylor suffered a dislocated left shoulder in the pre-season clash with Carlisle United just under a fortnight ago and has undergone surgery to correct the problem.
A club statement confirmed: "Newcastle United can confirm that Steven Taylor is expected to be sidelined for three months.
"Steven has had surgery on his left shoulder which he dislocated at Carlisle and, after further assessment of the injury in the past week, the medical bulletin is that it will be a three-month period of rehabilitation."
The 24-year-old, who has recently been linked with interest from Liverpool and Stoke City, missed the second half of last season due to a knee injury sustained in a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
Magpies boss Chris Hughton recently wrapped up the signing of former England defender Sol Campbell to add to his defensive options.
