Magpies suffer Cacapa blow
26 Mar 2008 - 10:05:50
Newcastle United defender Claudio Cacapa may have played his last game of the season after injuring a groin in training.
The 31-year-old Brazilian missed Saturday's 2-0 victory against Fulham after sustaining the strain on Friday morning.
United boss Kevin Keegan confirmed the bad news to the club's official website, saying: "We've lost Claudio Cacapa for about four to five weeks.
"He pulled his groin in training on Friday and that's why Lamine Diatta was in the squad against Fulham on Saturday."
Cacapa has scored twice in 21 appearances for United since moving to St James' Park on a free transfer from Lyon last summer.
Meanwhile, Keegan has praised Joey Barton for his display in the win against the Cottagers.
He said of the former Manchester City star: "I felt it was definitely Joey's best game - I thought he played with his head, and not his heart, so much.
"He's stopped wanting to run every game, and instead is just trying to do a good job for the team. He'll catch the attention of people by doing that as he's a strong and determined lad.
"He did all the things he's capable of doing, and did away with some of the things that are tougher for him. The things you want to do and the things you're capable of doing are sometimes different."
