Magpies snap up Routledge

Newcastle United have signed winger Wayne Routledge from Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

The 25-year-old was recently linked with a move to Middlesbrough, but has instead opted to head to St James' Park to join the Championship leaders.

Routledge started his career with Crystal Palace before heading to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2005, where he made only a handful of first-team appearances.

He spent time out on loan at both Portsmouth and Fulham before making a £1.25million switch to Aston Villa in January 2008, where he also failed to make a significant impact.

Routledge showed up well when loaned out to Cardiff City and switched to Loftus Road just over a year ago for £600,000.

He scored seven times in 49 appearances for the Hoops before earning a move to the North East.
