Magpies set for treble boost
10 Dec 2008 - 16:22:58
Newcastle United could welcome midfield trio Danny Guthrie, Nicky Butt and Damien Duff back from injury for Sunday's trip to Portsmouth.
Butt and Guthrie will definitely be back in contention according to Magpies boss Joe Kinnear despite the former missing last week's 2-2 draw with Stoke City and the latter limping off in the first half.
Republic of Ireland winger Duff has missed the last two matches with a groin problem, but has an outside chance of featuring at Fratton Park.
"It wasn't ideal against Stoke on Saturday in midfield because we'd already lost Nicky and Damien before the game and then Danny got injured in the first-half," Kinnear told the club's official website.
"But looking ahead to Sunday, we'll probably have Butt and Guthrie back and maybe, just maybe, Duff as well.
"So hopefully we'll be going down to Portsmouth with the strongest side that is available to us, apart from obviously Joey Barton who is still missing.
"It will be a tough game, we know that, but I always go into matches looking to win and Sunday will be no different."
