Magpies reveal Geremi surprise

Newcastle United have revealed their bemusement following the unveiling of midfielder Geremi as an Ankaragucu player.

The Cameroon international was paraded in front of the media by the Turkish club on Monday amid reports of an 18-month deal to acquire his services.

However, the Magpies claim they are in the dark about any agreement to sign their experienced midfielder.

"Further to reports in various sections of the media today regarding the transfer of Geremi to Turkish side Ankaragucu, Newcastle wish to make it clear that whilst there are a number of clubs interested in possibly acquiring his services, any talk of him leaving St James' Park at this moment is extremely premature," read a club statement.

"Geremi remains a Newcastle player and has today linked up with Cameroon for the African Cup of Nations."
