Magpies move delights Taylor
02 Feb 2009 - 16:09:02
Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear has swooped to sign Wigan Athletic midfielder Ryan Taylor while Charles N'Zogbia has moved in the opposite direction.
Twenty-four-year-old Taylor has penned a four-and-a-half year deal at St James' Park and is delighted with the switch.
"It's fantastic," he told the Magpies' official website. "This is a massive opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started.
"You only have to look at the game against Sunderland and the Newcastle fans to realise why I've signed for the club."
Latics boss Steve Bruce added: "It was one of those decisions that was quite easy to make really in the circumstances.
"Newcastle have made him a fantastic offer and I know he's been angling to try and play in his preferred position on the right side, which we haven't been able to do very regularly.
"He's a superb striker of the ball and it's ironic how this game works sometimes. All that pain he has inflicted on Newcastle in the past has probably bought him a move there.
"He was always totally professional here and I wish him all the best in his new career."
