Magpies land Khizanishvili

Newcastle United have snapped up Blackburn Rovers defender Zurab Khizanishvili on a three-month loan.

The 27-year-old Georgia international has only featured once for Rovers this season, but is expected to make a major impact at St James' Park.

Boss Chris Hughton told the club's official website: "Zurab is an experienced defender and we're very pleased to get him on board.

"He knows English football very well and will be a valuable addition to the squad over the coming months."

Khizanishvili has been at Ewood Park since the summer of 2005, having previously played in Scotland for both Dundee and Rangers.
