Magpies await Jonas verdict

Newcastle United are anxiously awaiting news of Jonas Gutierrez after the winger was stretchered off the pitch in Argentina's draw with Peru on Wednesday with a shoulder injury.

The £12million summer signing from Real Mallorca collided with Peru's Paolo De La Haza in the first half of the World Cup qualifier in Lima.

Initial reports suggested the 25-year-old winger had suffered a dislocated shoulder which could keep him out of action for a number of months.

However, Argentinian medical staff remain unsure over the extent of the injury.

"Jonas suffered a strong trauma to his right shoulder and he will need more medical examinations," said a spokesperson for the AFA.

Jonas has featured in all four of the Magpies' games this season following his arrival at St James' Park in July.
