Lovenkrands hailed by Hughton

Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton paid tribute to Peter Lovenkrands after he salvaged a 2-2 draw for the Magpies in Monday's top-of-the-table clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The Denmark forward's 54th-minute equaliser at St James' Park earned the Championship leaders what could prove to be a valuable point after they had twice trailed to goals from Jonas Olsson and Roman Bednar.

Lovenkrands had returned to the fold following a period of compassionate leave after the death of his father last week.

"His father was very proud of him and I think he felt his father would have liked him to play," said Hughton. "It shows great qualities from him as an individual. It was a very difficult time.

"His father wasn't a particularly old man and it was a very difficult time for him."
