Lovenkrands boost for Magpies

Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands has been handed a timely fitness boost ahead of their Championship clash at Watford on Saturday.

The Dane picked up a hamstring injury during Saturday's 3-0 win against Preston North End and he looked set for a spell on the sidelines.

He notched early in the win, his tenth of the season, and tests have now revealed the problem is not serious.

Manager Chris Hughton has suggested he could come into contention to face the Hornets as they seek to enhance their chances of returning to the Premier League at the first opportunity following last season's relegation.

Speaking to the club's official website, Hughton said: "The injury is not too serious and we are hopeful of having Peter available for the weekend."
