Newcastle United's managing director Derek Llambias has given his full backing to Alan Shearer continuing as manager at St James' Park next season.
Interim boss Shearer is widely seen as the man to help the Tynesiders make an immediate return to the Premier League, with a four-year contract rumoured to be on the negotiating table.
Ahead of talks with Shearer, Llambias said: "We want him to be the manager 100 per cent.
"He's very good at what he does and he's a straight-talking guy - we like that. He would be the perfect appointment.
"Talks will start today and we are going to review the situation.
"We are trying to sort something and we will give the public some information as soon as possible.
"Alan has put a lot of work into the job at Newcastle and we are talking to him now."
