Krul commits future to Magpies
29 Jul 2010 - 15:31:48
Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul is keen to become the club's first-choice shot-stopper after penning a new four-year contract that will keep him at St James' Park until the end of the 2013-14 season.
The 22-year-old Dutchman has spent the last five years with the club, starting nine first-team matches as well as featuring in two games from the substitute's bench.
He started 26 games for Falkirk during a loan spell in Scotland during the 2007-08 campaign before playing nine matches for Carlisle United the next season.
Krul spent most of last season on the substitute's bench, providing back-up for Steve Harper.
After signing the long-term contract, Krul said: "I am delighted to commit my future to Newcastle United. Hopefully I can fulfil my dream by becoming the future number one goalkeeper as well as getting into the Dutch national team squad.
"I have been at the club five years and it feels like home. I would like to thank Harps and Paul Barron for the guidance that they have shown me to date."
