Kinnear Watch My Lips - WE DON'T WANT YOU!
Joe Kinnear has hit back at criticism over his appointment as Newcastle's new director of football by insisting he is the perfect man for the job.
Kinnear was controversially brought in by the Magpies this week in a role that will see him have a say on everything from tactics to transfers.
But his arrival has plunged Newcastle in an internal crisis, with Derek Llambias resigning as managing director, while three other senior members of staff are believed to be considering quitting.
Kinnear though says he does not understand the fuss, insisting he is the right man for the job.
‘Being director of football is another step in my football life. It is a natural progression for me,’ said Kinnear.
‘I have been in the game since I was 15 and played in the top stadiums in the world.
‘That experience, plus my experiences as manager, holds me in good stead.
‘It is a great position for me and I am proud to take it.’
It is the first time Kinnear has spoken out since his bungling interview on national radio in which he embarrassingly got the names of a number of players wrong.
The 66-year-old’s performance caused ridicule online, and led to legendary striker Alan Shearer to describe the situation as ‘a laughing stock.
Newcastle have refused to comment further on Kinnear.
