Kinnear open to Magpies return
04 Jul 2009 - 14:31:12
Former Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear is refusing to rule out making a return to St James' Park.
Kinnear was in the hot-seat for 26 games last season after being appointed in an interim role following Kevin Keegan's departure as manager.
His reign was ended by health problems and a triple heart bypass operation in March.
Kinnear was replaced by another short-term appointment in Alan Sheare but, with owner Mike Ashley now attempting to sell the relegated club, there is no full-time manager.
But after being given the green light by doctors to return to the game, Kinnear has refused to rule out reprising his role with the Magpies.
"My contract was up at the end of the season. Mike knows I'm still available," he said.
"I spoke to Mike last week. He told me he has people very much interested in it and maybe the decision for me to go back there is away from him, because obviously new owners might come in.
"Obviously if they don't and they haven't got anybody else I thoroughly enjoyed my time when I was up there. I thought I did well up there. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the people. I enjoyed the team.
"If it does come, with the same scenario as last season, then I'm ready for the right."
