Kinnear eyes cup response

Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear believes his players will be keen to make amends for their below-par display against Liverpool when the face Hull City in the FA Cup.

The Magpies were soundly thrashed 5-1 by the league leaders at St James' Park on Sunday in a game in which goalkeeper Shay Given was their man-of-the-match.

Kinnear's out-of-sorts side return to action with a third-round trip to fellow Premier League opposition on Saturday and the United boss believes his players will have a point to prove.

''Of course the Liverpool game was a major disappointment for everyone connected with the club,'' he told the club's official website.

''But we have to get that out of our system ahead of Hull. This is a massive game in the context of our season and it's my job to make sure the lads are fully prepared.

''We will have the backing of the Geordies again and I cannot thank them enough for their support recently.

"Now it's up to us to hopefully give them a good cup run because I know the tradition of the competition up here.''
