Kinnear desperate for action
14 Jan 2009 - 10:03:53
Joe Kinnear has warned Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley that he needs to act quickly in the transfer market if the Magpies are to improve their league form.
The Magpies will be without 11 injured players for Wednesday's FA Cup third round replay meeting with Hull City and Kinnear is desperate to bolster his ranks in the transfer window.
The likes of Obafemi Martins, Joey Barton, Mark Viduka, Jose Enrique and Steven Taylor are among the players currently in the St James' Park treatment room with the club languishing just three points clear of the relegation zone.
"I've put the ball in Mike's court," Kinnear told The Sun.
"We need to act quickly. Mike's aware of the situation and if we don't get players in I will be disappointed.
"We could do without this FA Cup game, even though we want to stay in the competition.
"Two more injuries and who knows what sort of side I'll have for Blackburn on Saturday.
"That's why we have the meeting. It was called very hastily after I explained on Monday the difficult position we are in.
"The chairman was at home and I said, 'no, you need to come in. Come up tonight, we need to talk and get cracking'.
"In the position we're in, if you lose two or three games you can suddenly find yourself in the bottom three.
"I am not sure if they (the board) understand that already but I will make them aware of it."
