Kevin Keegan remains confident Michael Owen will sign a new contract with Newcastle United at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old failed to extend his scoring run to five consecutive matches as the Magpies drew 0-0 at Portsmouth, but Keegan remains content with the England international's recent fine form.
"People query whether he's committed to Newcastle but I think I'm close enough to judge that and he's told me he's really happy," Keegan said of Owen after the stalemate.
"He enjoys being at Newcastle. Does he want to stay? I would say yes with a capital Y.
"No matter who we sign this summer, no matter how big a name comes in and how much they cost, tying down Michael will be the biggest signing.
"I think he can mature into a different kind of player now, a bit like I did."
Owen has scored 15 goals in 39 Premier League appearances during an injury-ravaged three seasons at St James' Park.
