Jonas stars in Magpies victory
Newcastle United 4 Blackpool 1 JONAS GUTIERREZ will be the only Newcastle United player at this summer's World Cup Finals in a playing capacity. If he continues to perform like he did against Blackpool on Saturday he could prove to be one of the stars of South Africa 2010. True he is unlikely to come up against Seamus Coleman and Alex Baptiste when turning out for Argentina, but no defenders are comfortable against players that run at them and Gutierrez did just that for 90 minutes on Saturday. The Greeks, South Koreans and Nigerians won't look forward to facing the 26-year-old from Saenz Pena and the Spiderman mask may even get an airing at the tournament. The mask itself was out within 15 minutes on Saturday when he bamboozled the aforementioned Coleman and Baptiste cutting inside the box before finding the bottom corner of Matt Gilks' goal. He helped force the free-kick from which Andy Carroll got the second before the break and, if anything, was even better after the break. Yet another mazy run allowed him to create space for Kevin Nolan to score the third and he continued to run at the Tangerines' defence for the remainder of the game. Wayne Routledge got in on the act scoring the Magpies' fourth before substitute Brett Ormerod scored a late consolation for Ian Holloway's side but it was Gutierrez' who ran the show. Newcastle United (4-4-2): Harper; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Kadar; Routledge, Nolan, Guthrie, Gutierrez; Lovenkrands, Carroll. Subs: Krul (gk); Taylor, Smith, Barton, Pancrate, Best, Ameobi. Blackpool (4-4-2): Gilks; Baptiste, Crainey, Evatt, Coleman; Southern, Burgess; Adam, Vaughan; Taylor-Fletcher, Campbell. Subs: Halstead (gk); Edwards, Bannen, Dobbie, Clarke, Euell, Ormerod.
