Jenas - What It's Like To Score Against The Mackems!
He maybe a "goldfish", but QPR midfielder Jermaine Jenas explains what it was like to score against the Mackems.
The former Newcastle man ended a 1260 day goal-drought with a stunning strike against the Mackems on Saturday, with his last goal coming against Burnley in September 2009.
Jermaine Jenas: “No. No, no, no, I never doubted my chances of scoring in the Premier League again.
“Obviously doubts can creep into your mind when you pick up certain injuries but I’ve always believed in my ability and I knuckled down to work on my fitness.
“I even went to America in January to really do some hard work in a clinic out there and I’m reaping the rewards now.
“It was the type of thing I had to do to get back playing in the Premier League. It’s one of the toughest leagues around.
“[My last goal] was three years ago – I know exactly when it was!
“After the injury I sustained a couple of years ago, to score a goal like that against Sunderland felt great.
“We worked very hard against Southampton. But we all knew it meant nothing if we didn’t follow it up with another win.
“I thought we were unlucky to go a goal down. It was a sucker punch. But we dug deep, showed great spirit and came away with a convincing victory in the end.”
