He's Available - the Man To SAVE Newcastle?

We need a man to stand beside Fabricio Coloccini ... and I don't mean a James Perch, Mike Williamson or injury-prone Steven Taylor.

What we need is a daring raid for Manchester City and England centre-half Joleon Lescott.

City have him up for sale - he has the experience - and he could transform a defence that has become the but of jokes in the Premiership this season.

Sunderland's Martin O’Neill is keen to land the out-of-favour ­defender on loan and is waiting on the right time to pop the question to City manager Roberto Mancini about a deal.

Lescott has lost his place and fears he may need to move on permanently, so a shop window spell would not harm his chances.

And I ask you - Sunderland or Newcastle - I'm sure the former Everton defender would LOVE to wear the black and white!
