Has Shearer The Bottle For Everton Job?
Four years ago this weekend we beat Boro 3-1 facing the prospect of picking up one point from the last two games to stay in the Premiership.
Alan Shearer was the boss, and the Boro game was his first win in six Newcastle matches.
As it happens - we lost to Fulham (1-0) and Aston Villa (1-0) and the Magpies hit the relegation trapdoor - leaving the GOALden Boy shattered, never (to date) return to football management.
So what will he do now? Sit in the TV studio and tell other Premiership managers where they are going wrong, as he does now ... or show more bottle than Hanson, Lawrenson and Dixon ever did ... and JUST DO IT!
Everton are wanting someone to step into the shoes of Manchester United-bound David Moyes.
Big boots to fill ... but are Shearers feet ... and BALLS ... big enough?
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright insists the club will not be rushed into appointing a successor to Moyes. The likes of Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, Celtic manager Neil Lennon, Swansea's Michael Laudrup and Cardiff's Malky Mackay have all been linked with the Toffees job in recent days ... but why doesn't Shearer throw his cap into the mix?
Kenwright insists the club will take their time over the appointment, with no decision until after the final Premier League game of the season against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.
Kenwright: "We will not be making a quick decision, we will be taking time.
"We'll get the season over and then we will hopefully give some indication of where we are going."
