Harry 'The Bung' Flies To France To Snatch Remy!
Harry 'The Bung' Redknapp is due to fly out to France to get ahead of Newcastle in a move for 26-year-old France international Loic Remy.
Remy has been a long-term target for Alan Pardew, but the Marseille star is alarmed at Newcastle's recent slump, writes the Sunday People.
Remy himself would have preferred a move to Italy but Inter Milan are only interested in taking him on loan and Marseille have already ruled out that option.
QPR boss Harry Redknapp will fly by private jet this morning in a bid to steal a march over Newcastle in their chase for the 26-year-old French international.
But a high-powered Toon delegation, led by managing director Derek Llambias, is already in France looking at other targets and will hurry to Marseille today to hijack Redknapp’s bid.
Marseille have a French Cup tie with Guingamp at the Stade de Velodrome this afternoon and there is a good chance that Remy, who has made only 12 starts this season, will figure.
Both clubs have already decided that Remy is the man they want - now the battle is on to persuade him to join their battle against relegation.
Rangers reckon they are in pole position because they can offer Remy, who will cost £10million, higher wages.
But Newcastle, who used their midfielder Yohan Cabaye to lure fellow French international Mathieu Debuchy to Tyneside this week, are hoping a similar strategy will work with Remy.
Marseille’s pacy striker has been pals with Toon midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa since their days together at Lyon’s training base and Newcastle are hoping that will help seal the deal.
