Gutierrez backed to shine

Newcastle United's first-team coach Chris Hughton believes Jonas Gutierrez will play a crucial role in the Magpies' attempt to avoid relegation to the Championship.

The 25-year-old Argentinian has been one of United's success stories this season, being particularly impressive in the recent matches against Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers.

Hughton said: "Jonas is certainly now getting back to the level of performance he produced when he first came here.

"He gets stronger as the game goes on and with Jonas you almost don't want the final whistle to go because he's still going.

"But he has shown great quality recently and of course he is always a terrific team player.

"You know what you get with Jonas and that is so important when you are in a fight like we are at the moment."
