Newcastle United have confirmed that Chelsea defender Geremi will be Sam Allardyce's fourth signing of the summer, if the Cameroon international is granted a work permit.
The 28-year-old moves to St James' Park on a free transfer after agreeing a three-year deal and passing a medical.
Geremi has spent the last four seasons at Stamford Bridge, making 109 appearances for the club.
He spent the 2002-03 campaign on loan at Middlesbrough from Real Madrid, and scored seven times in 33 matches for the Teessiders.
Meanwhile, Allardyce has told his players as they prepare to travel to Austria for a pre-season training camp, that this is the start of a new era for the club.
He told the club's official website: "Whatever happened last year has gone.
"It was last year and it has been forgotten, whether it was good, bad or indifferent. It doesn't matter. It's a new era and a new start for me and for them.
"I hope that they can show me how good they are and we can start forging a new relationship to help Newcastle United do better next season than in the previous ones."
