Future concerns for Ameobi

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is hoping to force his way back into first-team contention at St James' Park, despite being linked with a summer exit from the Magpies.

The 26-year-old former England Under-21 international has been linked with both Stoke City and Norwich City, but Ameobi is still hopeful of impressing Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan in the coming weeks.

He told the Northern Echo: "I hope that it will not be the case that I get priced out of a move.

"I've always said that I want to play football. Newcastle were my team when I grew up and that's who I want to play for, but football comes first for me.

"I've always said if that (regular football) doesn't happen here I'll have to go somewhere else. But I'm still hoping I can get a chance here.

"It's up to me to work hard and try to force my way into the team. I've done that in pre-season and it's been nice to be back involved.

"Hopefully I can impress the manager in the next couple of games."
