Enrique has no plans to leave

Newcastle United full-back Jose Enrique has played down rumours suggesting he will be leaving the club in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old Spaniard moved to the north-east from Villarreal in the summer of 2007 and has gone on to feature in 36 games for the Magpies.

Reports have suggested United are looking to sell him, but Enrique told Marca: "I want to complete my contract. It doesn't bother me if they want to get rid of me.

"I have still got a few years left and I want to play an important part in getting the team back to where it deserves to be.

"I am very happy here. I like the city. The fans are 10 out of 10. A club with a history like Newcastle's should not be so low in the table.

"It's killing me that Newcastle are having such a bad season. The fans don't deserve this and I think we are going to be able to get out of this situation. We are only in November and anything can happen.

"We would all like to get into Europe but it's not going to happen."
