Toulouse's Cameroon international midfielder Achille Emana is set to disappoint a number of Premier League clubs by heading to Spain to join Real Betis.
The 26-year-old was a reported target for Newcastle United and several other top-flight teams in England, but Emana has opted to try his luck in La Liga instead.
He told Sky Sports: "I need a new challenge to boost my career. I know there are many contacts. The most interesting recent one was Newcastle United.
"My club want more money from Betis, around 8million euros, but if the two clubs can agree a price I will be happy. My career has to move forward and Betis are a very good club."
Meanwhile, the Magpies are being linked with a move for Rangers' Scotland international goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
The 26-year-old is rumoured to be on the United hit-list if Shay Given leaves Tyneside for Arsenal this summer.
The Gunners are thought to be keeping tabs on the Republic of Ireland star Given following the exit of Jens Lehmann from the Emirates Stadium.
