Dyer move talk dismissed

Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder has dismissed press reports linking midfielder Kieron Dyer with a big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old England international has suffered a plethora of injury problems during his time with the Magpies, but has looked impressive in recent weeks and Roeder has no plans to let him move on.

He said: "It's absolute nonsense about Spurs and why, after spending so much time in getting Kieron Dyer back into business with us, should we consider selling him?

"The only concern I have about Kieron is that he plays a big part in our last three matches."

Meanwhile, Roeder has given long-term absentees Shola Ameobi and Michael Owen fighting chances of being fit in time to face Reading on Monday evening.

He added: "I will be looking at both Shola and Michael very carefully in the next couple of days.

"I will know by the end of training tomorrow whether one or both of them, or neither of them, will feature in our plans for Reading."
