Newcastle United winger Damien Duff faces an extended spell on the sidelines after being forced to undergo surgery on a foot injury.
The 28-year-old had already gone under the knife earlier in the campaign to fix a knee problem, before suffering a new injury in the 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth just under a month ago.
A statement on United's official club website confirmed: "Damien Duff has undergone a foot operation following the injury sustained during Newcastle United's game at Portsmouth on April 14.
"The Republic of Ireland international has been sidelined since the game at Fratton Park, but underwent surgery on his injured right foot last Friday.
"The operation was a success and Damien is now recuperating back in Dublin."
Duff moved to Tyneside last summer for £5million, but has scored just once in 33 appearances since his arrival from Chelsea.
