Duff's season done for

Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder believes that winger Damien Duff will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury sustained in the 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth.

Duff was replaced nine minutes from time at Fratton Park and although a scan showed no break, Roeder thinks the Irishman's campaign is over.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "While an x-ray has shown there is no break, Damien has a badly swollen ankle and our medical people tell us that he will not be able to play again this season.

"It's bad luck for him coming at a time when he was beginning to show the sort of form we have been looking for from him."

Meanwhile, Roeder has slammed speculation linking Michael Owen with a summer move to Manchester United.

He told The Guardian: "It's all news to me.

"But I certainly haven't waited all these months to write Michael Owen's name on my team-sheet to even contemplate selling him.

"Michael is a very big part of my plans for next season and I know he's been as frustrated as everyone else and can't wait to start playing for Newcastle again."
