Double blow rocks Magpies
29 Jan 2009 - 08:06:38
Newcastle United suffered a massive double injury blow during the 2-1 loss at Manchester City, with Michael Owen and Joey Barton both facing lengthy spells out of action.
Owen suffered a broken bone in his left ankle, while Barton sustained a suspected fractured metatarsal to leave Kinnear even more frustrated by a growing catalogue of injury problems.
He said: "It is one thing after another at the moment. The doctor had said six to eight weeks with Michael and ten for Joey.
"Joey's going to have a scan on his ankle as we're not sure whether he has cracked it or not. He said he felt something crack in his right ankle, so we're going to check that out.
"Michael's on crutches already for protection and he's going to have a scan tomorrow.
"We have Charles N'Zogbia out with a swollen ankle now, Shay Given (knee) pulled out and we thought Mark Viduka was getting somewhere near, but he has gone back again.
"Obafemi Martins has been out for a long time and he is seriously missed. We are devastated at the moment.
"You look at sides like Tottenham who spend £16million here and £14million there, but we are not in that position at the moment."
