Desire pleases happy Kinnear
06 Oct 2008 - 09:20:47
Interim Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear hailed his team's character as they hit back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Everton.
The Magpies looked to be heading towards their sixth successive defeat until goals either side of half-time by Steven Taylor and Damien Duff brought them level.
Kinnear said after the draw: "I'm delighted. Of course in the end we had chances to win it and I thought we bossed most of the second half.
"But I'm happy to take a point given we were two goals down.
"The character the lads have shown is especially pleasing. We've worked the lads hard in training this past week and that work showed today.
"The state of the club when I walked in was scandalous and I'm not going to accept that. I know I am capable of doing a good job and I want to be left alone to do it.
"I want to leave this club in a really good way whenever that is and make sure they are in a better state.
"This is a team who had lost five out of seven and morale was rock bottom. It would have been wonderful to get a win today but it's great that we showed so much desire."
