Dan Gosling not expected to make Newcastle debut until new year

Gosling, 20, is still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered before he moved to Tyneside in controversial circumstances last summer and Hughton is in no mood to rush him back into action. 'Dan's rehab has been going very, very well,' said Hughton as he prepared for Wigan's visit to Tyneside on Saturday. 'I have been delighted with him from that perspective. 'It is a long injury and he will be delighted. There is not really a chance of him coming back before the end of the year not that I am aware of at the moment.' The England Under-21 international, who joined Newcastle on a four-year deal following a free transfer after Everton failed to give him a written contract offer, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a collision with Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann last March. 'It has been very frustrating for him,' Hughton added. 'He is only a young lad and it has been a long, long time out for him. 'Plus, he is at a new club and he probably wants to go out there and prove what he can do. You cannot do that if you are injured like he is, and that is annoying. 'There is no rush for Dan to come back. We will make sure he is absolutely ready before we risk him.'
