Carroll return to boost United

Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll should be fit enough to return to full training later this week.

The 20-year-old has been sidelined since injuring his ankle in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park earlier this month.

First-team coach Chris Hughton believes Carroll will be able to play in the Premier League clash at Bolton Wanderers later this month.

"Andy's very close to coming back," Hughton told the club's official website. "We're expecting him to resume full training at the end of this week or the start of next week.

"That's another big plus for us and it gives us more options.

"I think Everton is too soon for him but certainly for the Bolton game away."

Carroll has found the net twice in six starts and 16 substitute appearances for the Magpies since making his first-team debut in November 2006.
