Midfielder Nicky Butt believes he has done enough to earn a new contract at Newcastle United.
The 32-year-old former England international has seen his fortunes on Tyneside revitalised following the arrival as Sam Allardyce as manager during the summer.
Butt joined Newcastle in a £2.5million transfer from Manchester United in 2004 but spent a period on loan at Birmingham City under former boss Graeme Souness.
However, under Allardyce the experienced midfielder has been a permanent fixture in the starting line-up and, with his current contract set to expire in the summer, Butt is hoping to be offered fresh terms.
"When a new manager comes in you have to prove yourself no matter what age you are and no matter how much you've done," he told the club's official website.
"I think I have done that but hopefully the team will improve in the coming weeks because that's the most important thing.
"I want to stay here but that is ongoing at the moment and if that happens that's all well and good."
Butt has made over 90 appearances during three years with the Magpies.
