All change for Magpies
26 Jun 2007 - 13:16:06
Newcastle United have announced major boardroom changes as Mike Ashley nears the successful conclusion of his takeover of the St James' Park club.
Four club directors have quit the board although chairman Freddy Shepherd remains in position for the time being.
A club statement confirmed: "Following the recommended cash offer by St James' Holdings Limited being declared unconditional in all respects on 15 June 2007, Newcastle United PLC announces the resignation of Bruce Shepherd, Allison Antonopoulos, Tim Revill and Douglas Hall from the board of directors.
"Chris Mort and Steve Hayward have been appointed to the board of directors, all such changes to have immediate effect.
"(Chairman) Freddy Shepherd remains in his current role."
Meanwhile, the Magpies have agreed a compensation deal with FIFA and the FA over Michael Owen's injury while on England duty at last summer's World Cup finals.
A club spokesman confirmed: "We've finally reached a compromise with FIFA and the FA regarding Michael Owen. We're happy and it has been well worth Freddy Shepherd's fight.
"Taking into account that wages have now been paid in full and the compensation we have received, it will amount to around £10million."
